The senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial district, Senator Ali Wakili has distributed 114 water pumps to dry season farmers in his constituency.

Senator Wakili who is also the Chairman Senate Committee on Poverty Alleviation and Social welfare said that he has been helping dry-season farmers even before he became a Senator and will continue to do what he has been doing for them.

"This has become part of me that during dry season of every year I package a token for farmers to encourage dry season farming and at the same time empower them to become self-reliance and useful to the society.

"I beg you in the name of God, please, don't sell this machines make use of it and assist those who have interest in dry season farming. You can also rent it out to our brothers especially who do not have the machines,” he said.

Wakili said his constituency which is made of Bogoro, Alkaleri, Kirfi , Bauchi, Dass, Tafawa Balewa, and Toro local government areas have lots of streams and rivers that divide the areas which he said are assets that can be harnessed during the dry season farming.

He added that if people can harness the potentials of agriculture, the level of poverty would be significantly reduced in the country.

Speaking at the occasion, Chairman All Progressive Congress (APC) Tafawa Balewa Local Government, Alhaji Korau Bununu appreciated Senator Wakili for assisting the dry season farmers which he said would help most of the recipients to take care of their needs.
Alhaji Bununu reminded that the senator also sponsored farmers in the constituency last year with fertilizer, boreholes and insecticides among other farm equipment.

He said the generators would go a long way in boosting agriculture and reduce poverty among the people of the constituency and urged the beneficiaries to make the most of the equipment.
"If you maintain it well, it can last for up to 10 years. I will therefore advise you to ensure that you service it regularly and with the right engine oil," Aminu Tukur, member representing Lere/Bula constituency in the State Assembly, added.

Speaking to journalists, one of the beneficiaries, Joseph John , a tomato and onion farmer from Bar ward in Bogoro Local government Area expressed his appreciation to Senator Wakili for providing them with the water pumping machines to assist them in their dry season farming venture.

"I have been a farmer for over 17 years. Nobody has ever given me anything to boost my efforts as a farmer but today Senator Wakili has touched my life. I have nothing to give him than to pray to God to continue to protect him," he said.
